In canines, foetal asphyxia / hypoxia / dystocia account for the majority of abortion / stillbirths, with bacterial infection identified as the second most common cause of neonatal losses. Viral infection, protozoal infection and in-utero growth restriction are other documented causes of abortion and stillbirth.
